What is Cupping Therapy?
Though it has only recently gained mainstream attention, cupping therapy is a very popular treatment that dates back to ancient Egyptian civilization. In principle, the cups grab onto the skin, which can promote a wide variety of healthy functions within the body. Cupping therapy is offered by the highly experienced team at Q Factor Chiropractic in order to allow our patients in Mesquite, TX, to restore balance to their bodies. Visit us today to meet with Dr. Richard Channing or a member of our staff to learn more about it.

Is Cupping Therapy Right for Me?
Our team has found cupping therapy to be incredibly helpful for a wide variety of patients with a number of problems. However, you may not be a candidate if you currently have a sunburn, wound, skin ulcer, internal organ disorder, or thinning skin. It should also not be used by those who are currently taking a blood-thinning medication. The treatment itself is often used to treat:
- lower back pain
- neck and shoulder pain
- headaches and migraines
- knee pain
- acne
- carpal tunnel syndrome
- rheumatoid arthritis
How Does Cupping Therapy Work?
Once the patient is lying comfortably, we will use fire in order to quickly heat the cups. At this point, the fire will be removed from the cup, and the open side of the cups will be placed on a predetermined section of your skin. While these are usually placed on the back, they can also be placed on the chest, abdomen, buttocks, or legs. The placement of the hot cup onto the skin causes the air inside the cup to cool, creating a vacuum that pulls the skin and muscles into the cup itself. These cups will be left on the skin for several minutes before they are eventually removed.
What Results Can I Expect from Cupping Therapy?
At the end of the session, patients may feel some residual soreness and will experience some bruising in the area(s) the cups were placed. However, results should be noticeable very quickly, especially when used for pain management. Generally, patients are free to return to their normal, daily lives immediately after their treatment.
